Doyle E. Carlton, Jr. ran for governor of Florida in 1960 against Farris Bryant, but was unsuccessful in his bid. He represented the 27th District in the State Senate from 1953-1959 and 1955-1956. His district included Hardee, Highland, Glades, and DeSoto counties. Born in Tampa, he was the son of Florida's 25th governor, Doyle E. Carlton, Sr. and was farmer by occupation.
